Journey to the South

After a few months I'm finally taking the time to sit down and blog about something. Well, about what's going. I'm in England now with my family and currently trying to find a job. I guess I didn't realize it would be a lot harder from a different country, because hey, an interview is an interview, right? I guess that is false, because I haven't had much success lately. I will admit this is probably more because I have no idea what I want to do with my life and therefore don't know what jobs I should be applying to.
Can I just be a professional photographer? Please?
Anyway, I thought I would share some photos from when my Grandma and Grandpa Stoker were here. My grandpa is really into family history, so we went down south the second weekend they were here to visit some sights around Brighton.
This woman was a volunteer at one of the churches we visited on one of our family history stops. She let us go in the church and take some photos, then she let us take photos of her standing by the door with the key. So cute!
My grandpa with the sign for a street some of our family lived on in the 1800s.
And our family lived in the apartment with the pink door before they made the long journey to the United States and ultimately Utah.
This bookstore was really neat. We just happened to stumble upon it as we were walking around. The whole store was floor to ceiling books and a lot of them were over 100 years old. I guess coming from America it surprised me how easy and common it is to get things like that around here. And for really cheap! A few months ago my mom and I were at the auction nearby and were absolutely dumbfounded when a Victorian dining room table and chair set did not even sell! I guess many people around here don't like to have old stuff because to them its not special. I find it so strange!
The day we were in Brighton there was this really thick fog and it made
Brighton Pier and the surrounding beach front looked eerily beautiful.
One of the churches we went to for a family history site had a concert going on as we walked in, so we got to listen to the concert while enjoying the same church our family did long ago.
We also stopped at Arundel castle, which is, by far, the best castle I have ever visited. The Duke and Duchess of Norfolk still live there with their family and allow a portion of the castle to be opened to visitors. They mainly live in a separate wing, but they still use the entire castle. The week before their youngest son had a birthday party and guests stayed in the bedrooms throughout the building. There were personal family photos, books, and other such memorabilia placed on side tables here and there, and so it really did feel like it was someone's home that you were allowed to take a quick walk through.
We also took Grandma and Grandpa by Stonehenge, which I was excited to do because if you all recall, last year when I was here my camera had met its end just a few days into our England trip. I had to use my mom's camera (a very nice, but very non-dslr, point-and-shoot) for the rest of the trip and therefore didn't get any photos that I really loved. So I once again got my chance to take some photos of both Bath and Stonehenge.
While we were in Bath, since we had already been to the Roman Bath Museum, mom and I went on a tour of Bath Abbey while dad took Grandma and Grandpa to the museum. We got to go up in the bell tower, see where all the bells were, and get some great views of the city.
I think that's enough for now. I'm desperately trying to catch up on photos and blogging right now, so hopefully there will be a few more blog posts in the near future!
