The voice of James Vincent Mcmorrow is quite dreamy.

This cathedral has the coolest story. In Soviet times the church was taken apart and all its finery used to decorate the metro, or the palace of the people. It was then demolished. In its place the government attempted to build a Palace of the Soviets. Every attempt at construction resulted in water seeping into the foundation and flooding the area. Eventually they gave up and allowed a pool to be constructed there. The pool remained there until the 1990s, when it was decided they would rebuild the cathedral. From the beginning of construction on, the foundation never again flooded.

One of our last days in Moscow we went to see the Bolshoi Theatre perform Don Quixote. It was so so good. A perfect ending to a wonderful time in Russia.

They're currently renovating the original Bolshoi Theatre and it should be open by October. They say it will be a national dishonor if it is not finished in time. Really it's just a way of getting the crew working on the building to feel a little extra... motivation.

Inside the theater was gorgeous.

I always sometimes think life would be much nicer if I could just ditch the real world and become a painter in Asia.

I'd probably get sick of it after a while, though.

60 meters beneath the streets of Moscow, Tagansky Protected Command Point did not exist even five years ago as far as the Russian people knew. The Bunker served as the communications headquarters for top political leaders until the 1990s when it was decommissioned.

In case of nuclear bombing in the nearby vicinity, hide behind a tree trunk. Tots safe.

I can't help but feel a little bitter about this first post. My work for the last three years (ok, ok two and a half) is no more. But here's to a new beginning:

Taken at Victory Park in Moscow Russia last month. Sudden rainstorms make for the most dramatic and beautiful lighting.
